The Bad Idea Rally is a proposed commercial automotive engineering and entertainment platform built around a distinctive challenge: teams acquire salvage-yard vehicles, engineer and repair them within a constrained budget, and undertake a multi-day endurance challenge involving vehicle reliability, navigation, environmental conditions, logistics and mechanical problem-solving.

The commercial vision combines real-world engineering decisions, unpredictable failures, measurable competition and distributed storytelling. It is intended to become a repeatable national entertainment property—not an illegal street race.

Bad Idea Rally - Appalachia is the proposed West Virginia University – industry pilot. Its purpose is to determine whether the engineering, technology, experiential-learning and media-production components can be integrated into a safe, technically credible and commercially scalable format.
